In the world of international rugby, Zinzan Brooke has established a place at the very top of the sport. After making his debut for the All Blacks in 1987, he played in 3 World Cups for the NZ team, winning the inaugural 1987 tournament and losing in the 1995 nail biting final in South Africa. Between 1987 and 1997 he played 58 tests for the dominant All Black team and until 2015 held the record for test tries scored by a forward. His reputation for being a physically uncompromising player was matched equally with his unique skills which often impressed even the opposition team and supporters. His long range drop goals in major test matches against both England and South Africa have gone into rugby folklore.
Since ending his rugby career with a stint at London based Harlequins he has returned to his construction roots with a development business that built affordable good spec apartments around London until the banking crisis hit in 2008 resulting in his latest venture with Pete Hart. Number 8 was established as a result of a well timed suggestion and has grown into a successful business based around the same team ethic and dedication that Zinzan was so well known for in every team he played for throughout his long career
Zinzan Brooke Group CEORead More
Zinzan is probably best known for his sporting achievements with the All Blacks and various other New Zealand and UK Rugby teams. His post rugby career however has been very much involved in the UK construction sector. Initially with a private development company delivering a number of quality residential schemes around London. And since 2008 Zinzan has been involved with establishing Number 8 as a premium supplier of skilled construction labour to our impressive client group. Zinzan has been responsible for fostering the team ethos that permeates all aspects of Number 8′s operations. Whether it is valuing the efforts of all operatives who represent Number 8 positively through their attitude and ability on site, through to our involvement with client construction teams to assist in the successful delivery of any schemes we are involved with. Even with the CEO badge it is not uncommon to find Zinzan interviewing a potential operative or manning the phones when required.
Peter Hart Group Managing DirectorRead More
Pete’s background prior to establishing Number 8 with Zinzan in 2008, apart from being a gifted athlete, was entirely residential construction. He established and operated a successful high end residential construction business in Auckland New Zealand for 15 years, but responded to Zinzan’s SOS in 2002 to join him in the UK to head up a new venture construction business. Between 2002 and 2008 Pete was in charge of the day to day build operations on both development and contract projects.
As Group Managing Director he is responsible for overseeing all day to day operations as well as the ongoing expansion of the group’s activities.
Simon Brooke Trades & Labour ManagerRead More
After a couple of years in the trades and labour trenches Si managed to discard most of his nasty habits acquired from his many years as a chippie and wannabe excavator operator. The transformation has been almost miraculous and on the back of some obvious leadership qualities has been handed total responsibility for the management of the heartbeat of our business. One of the key ingredients for this role is being able to deal with issues when they arise and in this arena they tend to be relatively commonplace. However Si is virtually unflappable and uses his combination of charm, wit and a genuine appreciation of how these issues can affect our clients operation, to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
Michael Lynott Financial ControllerRead More
As the company's Financial Controller, Michael assumes responsibility for two very important aspects of our business. The weekly payroll function and the “money”. Michael brings a wealth of experience to the role with over 30 years looking after the books of various companies with connections to both construction and recruitment agencies. Unfortunately there is often a dark side and Michaels long term support for Brentford FC is an indication that the attention to detail he demonstrates on a day to day basis, has not always been evident in his decision making in the past.
Tony Langwade Trades & Labour account managerRead More
The old adage that “experience counts”, is totally appropriate with Tony. After a long career in construction, he reached the position of construction manager with Laing O’Rourke on a number of large projects including Terminal 5 at Heathrow. Tony’s appreciation of how temporary labour supply can enhance the clients direct workforce, is only matched by his awareness of the potential issues encountered if key standards are not met. Tony has established strong links with our clients site managers and is responsible for ensuring these relationships are maintained. Its fair to say that Tony is not our ‘go to’ guy if our IT systems have any issues however his credibility with site management make Tony a vital member of the Number 8 team.
Siobhan Morrison Credit ControlRead More
Siobhan has the unenviable job of chasing our valuable clients for money. However she has managed to establish very good relationships with all the accounts departments we deal with and with a dash of understanding and a particularly friendly approach seems to be able to convince them we deserve to be paid. She has also assumed an unofficial role of office Mum for the younger members of staff who often seek her misguided advice a on a wide range of life issues. To date Siobhan’s greatest accomplishment has been to take the winners prize in the company cooking competition. This was an unexpected victory especially by Siobhan’s husband.
Cosmin Petru Pop Trades & LabourRead More
Cosmin has been literally plucked from the coal face as a demolition operative working out assignments with our clients. After realising he preferred a warm clean office to a cold dusty demo site he joined our trades & labour team and has a vital role placing large numbers of CCDO demolition operatives. Not the least of his many hidden talents is his ability to speak 4-5 languages fluently including his native Romanian. With large numbers of Romanian workers now looking for construction work, Cos has a vital role in communicating and ensuring that all the required information and expectations are understood. He is also heavily involved in the organisation of our internal CCDO courses.
Unfortunately his many talents do not extend to cooking and a general warning is extended not to accept any sausage based home cooking from him.
James Christie Consultant – Contracting DivisionRead More
James brings a wealth of practical construction and project management experience to a role that requires broad knowledge but more importantly an understanding of what good candidates look like. His built in hunger for knowledge is useful with the massive range of roles the Contractor Team recruit for every day. James has many interests outside the office including an unhealthy passion for English Rugby. We hope over time his exposure to alternatives will reduce this obsession to more appropriate level.
Caroline Forde ResearcherRead More
Caroline is our current head of all things secret. As our resident researcher she employs a huge amount of experience as well as a bag of tricks to identify talented individuals working in the construction and Rail sectors. She has a disarming nature and sincerity that is luckily very genuine and enables her to gain the confidence of the potential candidates she talks to.
She is also the second member of our perm/freelance double act. Her specific responsibility is to build and manage an effective database of freelance Rail workers.
Rose Pardoe Office administratorRead More
