Digital Service Designer

Our public sector client is looking for an experienced Service Designer for a 5 month + freelance contract.

This is inside IR35 and can be worked remotely.

The position will involve building an ambitious digital roadmap and contribute to the building of a new User Centred Design (UCD) practice at the Agency.

You will be comfortable co-ordinating customers, colleagues and stakeholders; getting hands on with research and data to deliver insights; and creating artefacts that will help the Agency understand how to deliver great services and business benefits.

Your main responsibilities will include:

To Set the direction and embed good service design practice within teams
To Work with senior product owners and stakeholders to develop design concepts and lead service design activities across multiple projects on the roadmap.
To coach teams to ensure they take a user-centred, evidence-based approach to the design and delivery of services, by developing designs based on evidence of user needs and organisational outcomes
To work on designing, prototyping and building of new digital services, that are user-centred and accessible. You will also work closely and collaboratively with product managers to look at how to enhance and improve existing services.
To report directly to the Head of User Centred Design within the Technology, Digital, Data and Delivery Division of the Department
Educate colleagues in user-centred design and service design when necessary

You’ll have relevant experience in:

Service Definition and Value Proposition Development
User Journey Mapping
Service Blueprinting – Developing a service and how it fits within the wider landscape
Designing in a user-centred way, understand the internal and external customers, what their needs are and take these into account when designing services. You will have experience of advocating for people and user needs in all aspects of design work, and of UCD and service design.
leading the design of services in one or more teams, and support the wider organisational objectives and strategic priorities. You will have experience of reflecting critically and asking difficult questions; thinking holistically about the big picture while working out details and being able to appreciate and articulate the broader implications of a thing
Working with other specialists to design and create organisational, policy and financial structures that support service delivery of good services. You will have experience of engaging with stakeholders and colleagues from other disciplines in a variety of ways, as well as the ability to work autonomously away from the team.
Using reflective and critical thinking; challenging assumptions and asking questions; to support the agency to do better and deliver better services
Using evidence from research and data to inform design and management decisions, and use evidence to engage with senior stakeholders. Experience in using a range of research methods and able to select the most appropriate methods to use based on the brief.
