Immigration options:
Immigration to NZ has traditionally been a potential stumbling block to anybody wanting to relocate. Although changes are far from finalized, there may be opportunities for skilled workers not currently on the skills shortage list to obtain a temporary work visa. At this stage this should not be relied on so the only viable option is to seek advice about the 3 current options available. This may seem like a daunting process but there are normally options available to those that meet the minimum requirements and get good advice:
Permanent residence – Skilled migrant category
• Under 55 years old, proof of medical wellbeing and proof of good character
• This is a points based system that you should seek advice on and is normally only available to qualified professionals
• Fees and medical expenses can be around £3000 plus
• Processing times at least 2-3 months
Temporary Work Visa
• Will normally require employment contracts to be in place for a position that falls under the essential skills category or the employer can demonstrate that candidates are not available in NZ.
• Visas can vary from 3-5 years depending on the position.
• Fees and medical expenses would normally be less than £1000. Dependants around £100 each.
• Processing times around 4 weeks
Working Holiday Visa
• 12 months with extensions available if criteria met
• Must be between 18 and 30 years old with no dependant children
• Hold a return ticket or proven means to obtain one
• Proof of medical wellbeing and good character
• Sufficient funds to live on during your stay
• Not obtained a working holiday visa to NZ in the past
• Fees would normally be around £120
• Processing times up to 4 weeks but often quicker
All fees indicated above are based on using an accredited immigration consultant which is recommended.
